We regret to inform you that we have decided to close down the business at the end of 2020.
The decision to close down (due to the impact of COVID 19) was not an easy one.
We would like to thank all of our clients and students; UP Education & Training could not have been as successful as it was without your support.

ESL & Social Psychology
For students with an ESL level of intermediate or higher, we offer individual tutoring and group classes that combine English and social psychology into each lesson. When you want to understand others, you must understand the cultural contexts within which they have developed, how they perceive themselves in relation to others, and how to process, interpret and decode their world (Purcell-Gates, 1995, p. 5). |
Fun things to try
Learning is also about having fun and challenging your paradigms (beliefs about how you see the world). In the 'fun' part of the website, you will find entertaining and though provoking activities to try. If you want to see how questions can change the way we feel about other people, look at this and let us know how you went. |
ESL for Armenia project
In May 2018 the DAA (NGO) and other volunteers will join us in planning, designing, filming and compiling a 'flipped ESL-English classroom' series of videos in Armenian. These videos will then be available on YouTube free of charge for all Armenians to access. If you are interested in joining this projector would simply like more information, have a look at our short informative video and then contact us. |
Why combine ESL & Social Psychology?
We all communicate through linguistic communication (words) and non-linguistic communication (prosody, body language, eye contact etc.). How we use both of these tools determines how people think, feel and interact with us. If language is a tool, then knowing how to use the tool effectively is essential for those who want to connect, engage, understand and influence others.
Another tool is social psychology, a discipline focused on understanding the nature and causes of individual behaviour in social situations, and how human behaviour is influenced by other people. When you can combine your linguistic, non-linguistic skills with an understanding of how people are influenced through social contexts, you become a better influencer.
Grammar and vocabulary are important, but they are only half of what you need to be a good communicator. If you would like to learn more about how to become a better at connecting, engaging, understanding and influencing others contact us now for a chat.

A bit about us
Joe is an experienced People Skills trainer & ESL educator. He has taught English (ESL), Life Skills, and People Skills for over a decade in Australia, Armenia, Papua New Guinea, Nauru and England. This complements his voracious interest in human behaviour, language and the manner in which people interact and affect each other. His focus is to share language and social psychology so that people better understand themselves and others which is why he is always travelling overseas.
His best friend is Hamish McDuff, a rescue dog who regularly reminds him that the most important things in life are good friends to share your stories, joys and support with. Of course, chasing a ball and getting your belly scratched are the BEST thing a person can do in life according to Hamish. Joe also regularly volunteers with organisations locally and internationally and provides free training and education programs, support and materials to help those who don't have things as easy as some of us do.
"Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school" - Albert Einstein
"The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding" - Leonardo da Vinci
"I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it" - Pablo Picasso
